It is put up or shut up time for whoever is hatescorruption, betterplace and ivantatum. This person has advocated for people to call up the FBI to have them investigate corruption in Hawaii County’s government and has been throwing around a lot of unsubstantiated allegations. However he insists in hiding behind anonymous names because he is currently suing Hawaii County. I strongly feel this a cop out by this person.
On top of that,it is really easy to throw mud behind pseudonyms. Thus it is time to walk the walk for this county insider and take up Tiffany Edward Hunt’s offer of a “witness protection style interview” to express your allegations.
I can’t fathom why the county is charging such exorbitant fees to people making a public records request. It certainly limits the constituency’s right to have a transparent government.
It certainly blew my mind that the HDOT is raising the hold room passenger fee for Hilo Airport to $18.43.Which is pretty shocking when compared to the fees charged at the other airports in Hawaii ($.18-Kona,$.53-Kauai,$.92-Kahului, $1.13-Honolulu). However after thinking about it Hilo gets less passenger volume than the other airports. Thus in a way it made sense.
Nonetheless, I still inquired with HDOT Director Brennon Morioka to check the accuracy of the data.As far as I understood the $18.43 passenger fee for Hilo is incorrect. The HDOT is going to release a new memo early next week with the correct Hilo Airport passenger fee after a conference call with all the airlines serving Hilo.
Lastly,Lincoln Ashida, the Hawaii County Corporation Counsel, made some very valid points here why it was wise for the council to not reject their recent pay increase.Mr. Ashida’s suggestion that the council members take the initiative and take a unpaid day off a month without getting the salary commission involved is certainly thinking outside the box.

you’re going to have to implicate about 1,000 people, all of whom are aware of corruption and have mentioned it in blogs, etc…I have seen the responses in the paper too…hundreds of them!
