HDOT Released Draft EIS For The Hawaii Superferry,More On Hawaiian Telcom’s Local Investors Financial Losses,Hawaii’s DTV Transition

8 01 2009

The HDOT released a draft EIS. Which analyzed the impacts from the harbor improvements to accommodate a large capacity ferry (a.k.a Hawaii Superferry).I haven’t had a chance to read these enormous documents (located here, and here). But it seems according to news reports (here, here, and here) the negative impacts from these harbor improvements can be overcome.

The aspect of this process that really interests me is if this EIS will be completed before the Hawaii Supreme rules on the legality of Act II. If it doesn’t I wonder if it will force the Hawaii Superferry to shutdown once again.

Pacific Business News investigated further the enormous financial losses incurred by the local investors who invested in Hawaiian Telcom. (Hat tip to Ian Lind).

The Maui News had a interesting article about the digital TV dead zones that may crop up after the Hawaii DTV transition on January 15th, 2009.

On that note, President-elect Barack Obama’s transition team is urging Congress to postpone the nationwide DTV transition (scheduled for February 17th, 2009) to resolve recently cropped up issues.
