The HDOT has finally released a policy statement saying roundabouts should be considered as alternatives to stop lights and stop signs. This policy change is too little and too late. The HDOT should’ve embraced using roundabouts a long time ago.
Lastly, it seems Kona, along with Lihue, will be the only airports with increased air capacity during the early part of 2009.This should provide a boot to Hawaii County’s beleaguered tourism industry.

Strangely enough… the KPAG group that is organized to help with decisions on this is Strongly against Roundabouts.
Isn’t the objection to roundabouts that they don’t provide adequate crossing mechanisms for old slow people like me, and the disabled?
Aaron-To be honest, I’m not well versed in intricacies of how roundabouts are designed. I will have to look into this further.
Chuck – That is one of the disadvantages. As well as hearing impaired people.
Semi-Trucks also have difficulties managing them.
I’m still learning more about them. I see some spots where they would be good, and some that wouldn’t… along H130. I don’t know much about the Kona sides problems other then you guys have them too.
The roundabouts that were discussed for H130 did not look very pedestrian friendly though.
