The Hawaii Land Use Law & Policy blog did an interesting analysis of the recent Hawaii Supreme Court ruling in the Coupe condemnation case.
Hawaii County’s hotel occupancy rate ended the year at a anemic 58.5%.These abysmal numbers will probably continue into 2009.Thus Hawaii County’s overall economy will remain weak for the foreseeable future.I predict it may take up four years for Hawaii County’s economy to recover from the 2008 economic disaster.
Lastly, I strongly feel that the Hawaii Judiciary is being extremely selfish by not foregoing their scheduled pay increases. Hawaii is in dire economic straights. Thus everyone in the state government need to buckle down and keep their salaries in check. The latter is extremely critical so essential services, like education, are properly funded.
Attorney Charley Foster provides more commentary here about this standoff between the judiciary and Governor Lingle.
