Longtime WHT Reporter Bobby Command Tendered His Resignation Today,Mesa & Yucaipa Co Reach A Settlement,Excellent Letter To The Editor Criticizing Hawaii Superferry Opponents,Hawaii’s Tourism Industry Continues To Tailspin

I found out today that longtime West Hawaii Today reporter Bobby Command has tendered his resignation as of today. He has also accepted a job as Mayor Billy Kenoi’s West Hawaii executive assistant. This is very unfortunate turn of events. Bobby has done some very good investigative reporting over the years. His resignation will leave a huge void that WHT editor Reed Flickinger will probably be unable to replace completely.

This latest turn of events reminded me when Tiffany Edwards Hunt resigned from West Hawaii Today back in 2006. I wonder if WHT’s meddling editor also played a role in Bobby’s resignation or its due to the massive layoffs occurring at WHT’s parent company,Stephens Media. Which had its first local casualty when WHT’s staff photographer Baron Sekiya was laid off.

Mesa Airlines and Yucaipa Co. reached a settlement resolving Yucaipa Co.’s lawsuit against Mesa for allegedly using confidential business information to drive Aloha Airlines out of business.Yucaipa was the highest bidder for the rights to Aloha’s lawsuit against Mesa during Aloha’s bankruptcy proceedings. They were also Aloha’s largest shareholder before they ceased operations.

There was a excellent letter to the editor in the HTH criticizing the Hawaii Superferry opponents for continuing to try to force the HSF out of Hawaii.

Lastly,PBN is reporting that Hawaii’s tourism industry continues to tailspin. When will our politicians wake up and smell the coffee that we need to diversify our economy away from our dangerous dependence on tourism, construction, real estate, and the military ?
