Hat tip to Hunter Bishop for correctly predicting the Hawaii County Mayors race.
However I’m disappointed that Billy Kenoi.Angel would’ve directed this island toward a more sustainable, brighter future. But unfortunately the voters of this island have chosen a candidate,Billy Kenoi, who’ll keep the status quo in place. Which isn’t a good thing especially taking into account the enormous amount special interest money that flowed into his campaign and his utter disregard for the law.
On a more positive note, I’m happy that West Hawaii will be getting is own planning commission and we will be able to do initiative and referendum votes now.But on a even more positive note, Barack Obama won the race for for the White House.
I was taking a look at the final environmental assessment for the Home Depot in Hilo. There was a couple aspects that may impact the proposed Target/Safeway stores to be built across the street.Firstly, the sewer line in this area has a max capacity of 1.95cfs. Waiakea Center, as of 2004, was using 1.58cfs of that capacity. On top of that, the HELCO Kanoelehua substation which serves this area was at 80% capacity in 2004. It should be interesting how much of an impact this current proposal will have on this nearly maxed out infrastructure.
Lastly, I found this blog written by Alan McNarie, who used to work for the Hawaiian Island Journal, this evening.
