Saddle Road Resurfacing Update,Hawaii’s Ecomonic Forecast,Kaloko Light Industrial Park Expansion Update

20 08 2008

Andrew Cooper at A Darker View blog, did another update on the Saddle Road resurfacing project which started at m.m 35 and headed towards Kona. According to Andrew, the paving has reached m.m 41 for Hilo bound traffic and nearly m.m 42 for Kona bound traffic. That being said, it should be interesting see how much farther the DPW resurfaces Saddle Road. Hopefully they’ll get as far as the Kilohana Girl Scout Camp.

Hilo Hawaiian Fisherman left this comment in regards to the Saddle Road resurfacing :

“In WHT it says “The road will be paved and potholes filled between mile markers 35 and 41.5. From mile markers 41.5 to 43, the road will also be widened 18 to 20 feet. The resurfacing work should last five to 10 years, McClure said.” So are they not going to do the 41.5mm – 43mm section now is that what you are saying? Thanks again for all the great blogging. Basically you cover all the important news I want to hear about.”

I e-mailed Bruce McClure about this person’s question. But I guess Bruce’s answer will be it will depend on the weather, asphalt availability, and time.

Paul Brewbaker did a more realistic forecast of Hawaii’s economy going into 2009 than this more overly optimistic forecast here.In my opinion, Paul is most in tune with Hawaii’s economy. Thus he is usually the only one right on the money.

E.M Rivera and Sons did indeed stop construction on the Kaloko Light Industrial expansion. But it wasn’t due to any financing issue. Apparently HELCO has to design the electrical boxes for this project. On top of that, the drainage system had to be re-designed. This resulted in a three month delay for this project.

The e-mail I received stated that construction would resume in the next two weeks. Although I did notice limited construction activity recently.
