It is good to see that oil prices are continuing to drop.If this trend continues, it will certainly ease the burden on the airlines and ultimately our state’s beleaguered tourism industry.
It is certainly good news that CEO of North Hawaii Community Hospital has resigned. He became a lightning rod for criticism when NHCH was forced to lay people off.Now with him out of the way maybe the hospital can positively move on.
Lastly, it seems the 6(5) phase of the Saddle Road improvement project has been slightly delayed.Instead of being advertised on the 7/30/08, it will be advertised on 8/04/08. The bid opening for the 6(5) phase is going to happen on 9/11/08, instead of 9/04/08. As for the 6(4) phase, which Goodfellow Brothers is completing the grading work in preparation for 6(5) phase paving (between m.m 35 and m.m 41.5). The latterĀ phase should be completed by this fall.

There has certainly been a great deal of activity on the 6(4) phase. A lot of activity and heavy equipment. On the Kona end the grade is reaching the existing road, with one good sized road cut appearing literally overnight, Monday to Tuesday.
When is the projected completion of paving? Looking forward to this new section!
Aaron- I recall Brennon Morioka saying that this phase would be completed by the summer of 2009. It is still possible that latter time line is still achievable.
I’ve been trying to get in touch with my contact at the CFLHD. But he has been very busy lately. So I have had no luck in getting touch with him.
