Local Hospitals In Crisis July 14, 2008

I find it absolutely insane that the other local hospitals are content to continue their business as usual attitude. All the while, Rome is burning. Only Kona Community Hospital is tackling this fiscal shortfall head-on. Even though they are projecting only a 3.7 million dollar shortfall for FY 2009.On the other hand, the East Hawaii District (which comprises of Hilo Medical Center,Ka’u Hospital, and Honoka’a Hospital) are projecting a 27 million dollar shortfall for FY2009.
This is almost 4 times larger than what is projected for the West Hawaii district. But only the management for the West Hawaii district is proactively addressing this issue.Which undoubtedly will make the overall hospital financial crisis much worse. Thus all the HHSC hospitals statewide need to address this fiscal crisis instead of sticking their heads in the sand.
