I think I figured out why I get such poor results off the DSLReports speed tests. As far as I can see, the ones I’ve used only test up to 8.8Mbps. The only one I’ve found that tests higher than that (11.7Mbps) is this one at LavaNet. Thus I figure this why I can’t get anything higher than 5Mbps to these servers.
As a comparison I get much higher speed test results with my 11Mbps DSL service to these NDT servers.
There was yet another letter to the editor advocating the creation of townships here.It will be an uphill battle to create these political subdivisions. Especially since the legislature is the only body that can create these entities.
The legislature is pretty much controlled by Oahu legislators. I would suspect that they would not look favorably to any township proposals. Any such proposal would be a Trojan horse which would allow other communities to do the same thing (e.g Kaneohe, Kapolei on Oahu).Below is a comment I left on Hunter Bishop’s blog about this proposal.
“The majority of the House (34 out of 51 seats) and I believe 15 out 25 in the State Senate are from Oahu. The Oahu representatives/senators don’t want to see Kapolei or Kaneohe secede from the City & County of Honolulu. By allowing HPP to create a township would be a Trojan horse for other communities to do the same thing. This is a huge roadblock to establish any new townships or counties in this state. Especially since the legislature is the only body that can create these entities.”
It is very good to see that the West Hawaii Civic Center is moving forward. It certainly didn’t look like it was going to materialize a few weeks ago. Especially when a few radical East Hawaii Council members tried to torpedo this project.
Lastly, it looks like the hammer is ready to fall at Kona Community Hospital.54 employees will be laid off due a fiscal crisis facing Hawaii’s hospitals. I just hope these layoffs will not significantly harm overall patient care at Kona’s only hospital.

Notice that most of the shortfall is attributed to East Hawaii, while the only layoffs are in Kona? Hmmmmmm.
Aaron- I noticed that too. It may be a reporting error.I don’t recall any previous articles stating that Hilo Hospital was the main culprit for the shortfall. I’m going to e-mail the reporter and seek clarification.
on township, Wouldn’t Kona like to become a Town/City
