Police Department Complaint

17 12 2007

Last Saturday, a person driving a Volvo hit my truck and left the scene while me and my girlfriend were eating in McDonald’s on Kuakini Highway.Luckily the damage is only cosmetic. It seemed that Volvo got more damage than I did. Nonetheless I called the police and filed a report with them. Luckily a witness got the license plate number of the Volvo that allegedly hit me.

Fast forward to today, I got a phone call from my insurance company. The person informed me that they don’t have access to the database where the license plates can be cross checked. She said if the police officer did his job, the information should be in the police report. But it would take a couple weeks for them to get the report. She suggested that I call up the police department directly to request the report to speed things up.

Shortly thereafter I called up the HCPD’s records division. The lady informed me it would take two weeks to process my request for the police report.I am so lucky that the damage was not more severe. If that was the case I would be stuck paying the $ 250.00 collision deductible. I guess it goes to show that even if you get the person’s license plate number, it won’t help much. Especially here on the Big Island, where the HCPD is stuck in the dark ages.

I’m not going to post the license plate number. But if anyone is interested I can privately mention it via e-mail. I’ll mention this though, the person lives out in Keaau.

That sucks!

In the meantime, since you have the license plate, you could post it here:

Best of luck
